More House Pictures and a WINNER!!!

Like I said yesterday, I am surprised by how many of you commented that you like to check my blog to see how the house is coming along! Believe it or not we have the Final Inspection scheduled for the end of this week and we'll begin moving this weekend and next. (Holy COW! I still can't believe we're FINALLY there!) The house is dusty, there are a gazillion workers running around doing last minute things, BUT it's beginning to look livable, which is SO STINKIN' EXCITING!!! YAY!!!!!

I took these pictures of the basement last weekend. These are the *FUN* areas of the house. Instead of using the suspended garages for storage, we decided to turn the basement into a family-friendly playground.

If you have ever checked out my House for Sale blog, you probably saw the mural we have painted in our basement. That is one thing I was really going to miss when we moved. My husband promised me we could have the same artist come back and do it again for us in this new house. Well, when we called him, he told us that he now does 3-dimensional murals!!! WooHOOO! We decided to go for it. We had him do the same Snow White inspired mural, but with a 3-D cottage. He made the cutest little door, real working shutters and a real thatched straw roof. (Hey! No huffing and puffing down there!!!) He's still working on painting the forest. It's coming together so cute and the kids just adore playing in there. :D

Across the hall from the cottage, we ended up with a "random" room. No windows, and the far-end of the room does a funky, bump-in. We decided to make it a play room for the kids.

Why the raised wood floor? Well, we decided to turn it into a Stage! :D The closet on the left is for toys/dress-ups/props, etc. On the right hand wall we will mount mirrors for the girls to dance in. Along the back I want to have our mural artist eventually come back and paint something. ??? Not sure what yet. But I have awhile to ponder that one. Maybe just more trees and scenery. Across the top I want to put a scrolly valance and hang velvet curtains behind it that open and close with a pully. It should be fun!
Here is a shot looking back at the door so you can see the track lights with all the colors. :D We put three different rows so the kids can switch the different colors on/off creating different "moods." Should be fun!
Down the hall from the cottage and across from the Family Room is a window that looks down on "Kevin's Room". Remember that big hole we dug at the beginning of all this? Well, this is what it turned into.
I have my Scrap Room, . . . Kevin has this room. With three daughters, I have a feeling that many-a-boyfriend will be hanging out down there with my husband and son in the years to come. LOL!
To the right of the window and at the end of the hall our mural artist is creating a Ticket Booth for us. A Ticket Booth? To What????
(Looking back towards the cottage/family room)
To the Theater. :D :D :D Popcorn, anyone?

So, that's the Basement! Now onto the winner of the BackPorch Memories Stamp Set!

And the winner is . . .

Good Monday Morning!

I've been packing, and packing, and packing . . . and I'm not even halfway there yet. :( Oh, well! LOL!

All last week the house was buzzing with activity! Paint touch-up, electricians, plumbers, brick-layers, landscapers, etc. YAY! It feels good seeing so much activity happening over there . . . like there is actually a light at the end of this building-a-house-tunnel. :D

The electricians were setting lights on the side of the house and were startled when they came across a tarantula. Yep. Great, huh. :( I hope there aren't any more of those bad-boys sneaking around! I hope that once we get the grass in, the creepy-crawlies will move next door to the reservoir.

Also, last week, we had a fire over at our property. !!!!!!!!! YIKES! is right! Our painters left a box of turpentine-soaked rags NEXT to the dumpster. They *forgot* to soak them in water and they caught on fire at around 10:00 p.m. one night. THANK HEAVENS for a watchful neighbor that called the fire department! The dumpster is pretty far from the house, but it did catch the surrounding field on fire -- about 4' X 30'.

When my husband talked to the painters the next day, all they said was, "Yeah. Those rags can do that." You can bet their boss received an earful from my hubs after that comment. :( He told them from now on they'll have to haul all of their own garbage off the property. The workers said, "But, that might catch my car on fire!" Ya think?! DUH!!!!! Better your run-down van than my brand new house! Grrrrrr!!!!!

Here are a few pictures for you that I took last week. They are kind of random, but oh well! Posts need pictures, right?! :D

Sidewalk with Reworked Rock Wall & Steps

Kitchen Backsplash

Downstairs Bathroom Vanity

Maryn & Camryn giving each other a kiss through their "Hole in the Wall"

We put a little "mailbox" hole in between Maryn and Camryn's rooms. It still needs a cabinet door put on, but they are having fun playing already! :D

Have a great week!

Epistle of a Catch-Up Post

ETA: I know I promised some layouts tonight, but in all honesty, I am so darned pooped. I think I'm going to hit the hay and upload them on Sunday. Thanks for your understanding! Jana

Hi. I'm so sorry. I haven't been around this week and this is why. My kids will start a new school next Monday AND three of their birthdays are next week. YIKES! Party-planning-central going on right now! Along with all the craziness at the new house, we're running around like chickens with our heads cut off. Please forgive me?

Sunday
Realtor brought a client through our home = spending the day cleaning and then vacating our house

Monday
Another realtor scheduled to come through the house with a client = vacating house to KEEP it clean from the day before
Realtor cancelled last second - GRRRRRR! - BUT, rescheduled for Wednesday, YAY!!!!

Write/Mail out invitations to family birthday party this Saturday

Tuesday
Patios poured

Decide/Discuss/Implement changes to the rockwork in the front of the house to facilitate better flow to the front door from the street

Hanging lights at the new house deciding heights, etc.
Save the "Charlie Brown" tree (the one in the middle of the picture) from my husband wanting to rip it out of the backyard along with the thorn bushes and yucky bushes

Back-To-School party for Jensyn given by gals in our new neighborhood (So sweet!!!) She was too embarrassed to let me take any pictures of her.

Wednesday
Clean house again for the rescheduled realtor
Vacate the house with the kids
Discuss placement of driveway layout with landscapers/concrete guys

Write and deliver birthday invitations for son's birthday party Saturday
Start writing Maryn's birthday invites to be delivered tomorrow

Deliver Thank You's to various neighbors and friends for all the sweet parties they've thrown for us lately
Took the kids to Back-To-School night by myself (Kevin had a speaking-engagement) to introduce the kids to their new teachers and familiarize them with their new school (NERVES are HIGH!) They didn't let me embarrass them with photos again, darnit! Don't they know I'm a scrapbooker! LOL!
Stay up until 1:00 a.m. putting together goodie bags (I have movie theaters, Star Wars, Wizard of Oz and Zoo animals on the brain all at the same time! LOL!)

Today
Rock fireplace in basement just finishing up . . . now they can move to the main floor (YAY!)

Decorating kitchen for Owen's party
Discussing entrywalks with concrete guys
More light placement

Who knows what else!!! :D

Did I mention that on top of all this I have no food in my house so we are eating out every meal. I bet you want to come live with me, huh?

Upcoming!
Tomorrow is Owen's party at Noon. We are making lunch and then taking him and 13 friends to see Star Wars: Clone Wars. YEP. I'm crazy. Call it, "feeling-guilty-we're-moving-and-want-the-kids-to-have-one-last-chance-to-party-with-their-friends" week.

From 6 to 9 is party with my family. And then Sunday is Owen's actual birthday. I haven't even had time to shop for his presents! Maybe tonight while he's sleeping I'll head over to WalMart.

Monday my kids start at their new school. Maryn's birthday is on Thursday, along with a Swimming party with her friends. We leave out of town Friday. Saturday is Jensyn's birthday and then we drive home from our vacation Sunday to be at my niece's birthday party Sunday night. I think we'll plan Jensyn's friend party for the next Saturday, but I haven't figured that out yet. LOL!

Can you tell I'm feeling a little crazed right now. I think I need a nap.
So sorry to dump all of this stuff out there. I just wanted y'all to know what I'm up to. That way if you don't hear from me again until mid-September you'll know why. :D :D :D

I do have some layouts to post. I'll try and make it back tonight to get those up.
Keep your fingers crossed I can make it through these next few weeks!

XOXOXOXOX,
Jana

Scrap Room & House Photos

Here are the pictures I promised of the new house. I hope you don't mind that I share these with you, I'm just so excited at how everything is finally coming together! It's been a process that began July of 2007 that we have poured our hearts and souls into.

I can't believe that we will be living there in less than 2 months!!! (Hopefully sooner!) We wanted to be in before school starts, but that just isn't going to happen. Bummer. It's actually going to be good. Three of my kids birthdays are the last week of August, so that will give us a chance to have Big Birthday/Good-Bye parties with their friends. Our next hope was to be moving over Labor Day weekend. But I don't think that is going to happen either. We'll get in when we get in. I think it will be mid to late September. Whenever it is, it will be worth the extra time to get everything done right.

I'll show you my favorite room first -- My Scrap Room! :D :D :D The panels at the bottoms of the first photo are the front of my desk (just so it makes sense).

Fun & Busy Day!

Hee hee! Guess where we went today?! That's right! We hit Lagoon! (an amusement park here in Utah) It was hot and we ate too much junk food, but we had a blast! The house is coming along great! I don't think we'll be in before school starts . . . maybe a week or two after. But that's okay. There is nothing we can do about it. Everyone is working extra hard, but things just take time.
It's been nerve-wracking seeing all the finishes start coming together. I swear I second-guess myself every step of the way. But once I stop over-analyzing every layer, I really do think everything is complimenting each other just the way I had imagined it. :D The paint is now finished and guess what was delivered and is being installed this week . . . ????
The cabinets!!!! Don't get me wrong . . . I'm totally excited about the kitchen and the bathrooms, but I am the MOST excited about my Scrap Room cabinets!!!! :D :D :D (I knew you'd understand!)

They won't be installed until Saturday, so I'll be sure to post some pics once they are in place. (EEeeeeeeekkKKKK!) Am I weird that I still go up there and just dream about what I'm going to put in all those drawers?! I can't wait! Thanks for letting me share!

Good night!

Scrap Rooms and House Update

This post is all about houses . . . not really scrapping related . . . so I apologize ahead of time if that completely bores you. LOL!

Saturday, my hubby and I went to a Parade of Homes a few counties away from us. I took a few pictures of some scrap rooms just for you! Enjoy!

This one was crazy-cool! Black and white and elegant! It was located in a loft that had windows on both sides of the room and looked down over a family room through french doors. Really cool! Check out those cabinets! I wish I had taken my good camera with me to do this room justice, it was really pretty! My favorite part were the cabinets with glass doors. One of them had staggered dowel rods for wrapping paper. Of course, I would add bolts and bolts of ribbons. Wouldn't that be fun?!!!

This second one was right off the kitchen open to the rest of the house. I love the window seat just beckoning someone to come and chit-chat with you while you work. So fun!

********************************************

Today we had a big Open House for realtors. Which means the past few days I couldn't do any scrapping. :( Monday we had our carpets shampooed to get ready for it and then yesterday was cleaning the house top to bottom. On top of that, I had to keep the four kids from messing it up until the Open House was over. LOL! I'm glad we can be "normal" again and just eat and run around like we normally do.

Our realtor is doing such a great job! It's nice to let someone else worry about it for you. :) She sent a photographer to our house a couple of weeks ago for a home photo shoot. I've never seen my house look so good! Seriously, I don't think I've even had that many pictures taken of ME?! LOL! Here's the online tour with all the pictures, so you can see for yourself!

http://browser.3sixtyonline.com/mls_number/803197

Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer that our house will sell soon! ;)

********************************************

My friend, Jenn, asked me to update what is going on with the new house. The brick is done and now the soffit is being installed. After that, the rock will go on the sections that are still plain. WOOHOOOO! Slowly but surely, it's beginning to look like a liveable home!

I included a few more pictures of the backyard so you can see the forest area (that's what made me fall in love with this lot!). On the other side of our house is a reservoir. It's actually quite peaceful feeling, but I think we need to cover up that barbed wire fence somehow. Maybe bushes, maybe another fence . . . we haven't decided yet.

Inside, the tile in all the bathrooms was finished. I don't know if you remember, but while we were on vacation in April the first tile people we had did such a cruddy job that we had to rip it all out and start over. It was sad to put so much tile to waste, but I am sooooo glad we did. The second group we hired did an impeccable job and I couldn't be happier!!!

Trim is done in the basement and almost complete on the main level. Painter's have actually started working in the basement, so that's fun to see colors starting to go up!
