I just wanted to say THANK YOU to Imaginisce for such a fun week Guest Designing on their blog. I loved working with their lines and can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves next! :D

Ocean Adventure
More of the i-rock tool on this page! LOVE that thing. -- Poor Maryn. On this day we visited the beach she was wading in the water and was swept off her feet by an unexpectedly strong wave. She panicked when it started to pull her a bit and Jensyn ran to her rescue . . . thus the title "Ocean Adventure" (and the reason I put the "Into the Ocean" sticker next to Maryn. Heee!). :)

The project I have for you today is something that is simple and easy to put together. It is a Jacob's Ladder Brag Book! Perfect for Grandma to tuck into her purse to show off the grandkids, or for Grampa or Dad to place on their desk at work. Don't let all the steps and pictures fool you . . . this is actually a very simple and satisfying project to put together. :)

Here is what you will need:

HEAVY Chipboard or Mount Board (available at a Framing Shop)-- I used 12 3" X 3" pieces

Pink Paislee Products and other creative supplies to decorate your book (I used the 365 Degrees collection)

Glue (I used Beacon's 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue)

Ribbon (Three 4 ft. lengths)


ASSEMBLY TIPS:

1) When choosing supplies, keep in mind that your papers and embellishments need to be FLAT in order for the book to function. The very top panel (page) is the only page you are able to add dimensional products to.

2) Remember to add your photos and other embellishments beneath the ribbon. If you adhere them on top of the ribbon they will interfere and the Jacob's Ladder will not work.

3) The ribbon does cover up part of your design. You could choose a thinner ribbon, but the Jacob's Ladder won't be as stable.

STEP 1
Cut twelve 3" X 3" squares from mount board or heavy chipboard. You can have the framing shop do this for you. Or take it to a copy/print store and have them cut it for you on their large cutter.



STEP 2
Measure and mark three lines on the back of each square. One in the center at 1.5" and the other two lines 0.5" in from the top and bottom of each square. (I put marks going both directions so that I could decide later which direction to place my square.)



STEP 3
Cover one side only of all 12 pieces using coordinating patterned papers. Make sure you can still see your marked lines on the back of your pieces.



STEP 4
Cut three lengths of ribbon that are approximately 4 ft. long each. Place the first square face down and glue the ends of the ribbon along your marked lines. Glue the top and bottom ribbons trailing off on one side of the piece and your middle ribbon trailing off the opposite side, as shown.



STEP 5
Use glue to attach another square directly on top of the square you glued the ribbons to, sandwiching the ribbons in between. Hold in place, lining them up perfectly until the glue is dry.



STEP 6
Reverse the direction of the ribbons by flipping them over the top of the piece with the patterned paper facing up. Make sure the ribbons stay flat and are not twisted. DO NOT GLUE the ribbons in place, just hold them.



STEP 7
Place the next piece with the patterned paper facing down, sandwiching the ribbons in between this layer and the previous one. Apply glue to the measured lines on the back of the chipboard piece, flip the ribbons over and hold them in place until the glue dries. Adhere the next square on top patterned paper side facing up.



STEP 7
Adhere the next square on top patterned paper side facing up. Repeat the previous steps, stacking all squares and only glueing on the marked guidelines. When you get to the last square, trim off the excess ribbon and sandwich the ends by glueing the last piece on top.



STEP 8
You should now have something that looks like this. Decorate the Jacob's Ladder with patterned papers, photos, journaling and stickers, as desired, keeping in mind that everything you use must be flat in order for the Jacob's Ladder to function properly. Remember to glue items UNDERNEATH the ribbons.



STEP 9
Decorate the top piece with a title and you are ready to give it as a gift. For my book, I placed a picture of a grandchild on each square with their name. You could also leave some of the squares without photos and use that space to write a special message, quote, or poem. Have fun with it! The possibilities are endless!

Add a matching card to really set off your special gift!

Scor-It-All Dimensional Leaves Tutorial

I have a tutorial featured in the May 2010 Newsletter for the Scor-It-All board (one of my very favorite tools!), and thought I would share it here on my blog as well. :)

With it's raised metal scoring bar, the Scor-It-All allows you to score through a double-thickness of cardstock which means I can create these really fun leaves for my projects. :)

DIMENSIONAL LEAVES TUTORIAL by Me! :)

STEP 1
Cut a rectangle from green cardstock. Place it on your Scor-it-All board so that it is centered, lengthwise, and score a line to create the center vein on the leaf.

STEP 2
Fold the rectangle in half along the line you scored in Step 1. Cut a simple leaf shape.



STEP 3
To create the veins in the leaf, place folded leaf shape on the Scor-it-All board at an angle. Make a score line for the first vein. Move the leaf shape slightly and continue to make evenly spaced score lines all the way to the other end of the leaf.



Open the leaf to reveal the symmetrical, textured vein lines. Beautiful!



TIPS:

Leaves can be any size and color. They add dimension to layouts, cards and other projects.

Use leaves to create the feel of a jungle or combine them with flowers, vines and other elements

For a totally different look, highlight vein lines and edges of the leaves with ink or chalk, or distress with a sanding block.

I wanted to end my post by telling you WHY this is one of my favorite tools. :)

With it's raised metal scoring bar and metal-lined score tool, this set simply creates the highest quality score I have seen in a portable tool. I come from a family that owns a print/copy store with large, professional bindery machines. I have tried all kinds of scoring tools including ones with premeasured grooves and scoring attachments for trimmers, and have always been disappointed that I couldn't get a quality score. The plastic tools used with boards with premeasured grooves would quickly go dull and not create a crisp score. Trimmer attachments worked inconsistently and would tear or cut through my cardstock. UGH! Frustrating! When I found the Scor-It-All board I fell in love because you get a professional looking score every single time. :) I LOVE IT!!!

(You should know that, YES, Scor-It-All did give me my cute NEW pink Scor-It-All tool when I joined the Design Team . . . but I already owned the 12 X 12 board of the "older" model and have been using it for a long time. When I was asked to create projects for their site, I couldn't help but say YES because it has always been one of my favorite things to use. I gave my dad my "old" tool to use at his print shop for smaller bindery jobs. :) )

Imaginisce Live Loud & Scooter's Vacation

First off, the Live Loud collection. Is that little singing robot the cutest or what?! I snapped a bunch of pictures of my daughters dancing one night and even though every single picture was blurry (Note to Self: Practice manual mode in low-light situations), I still wanted to record this little ritual they do together. :)

I used the new I-Rock tool to add the green jewels and white pearl accents. I love the dimension they add to the page. :) The background is spritzed with Licorice Spritz and Jeni B. Bleu Vibez by Shimmerz Paints .

Have you played with the Imaginisce Brad Maker?! LOVE!!! Here I used green patterned paper to make coordinating brads to accent my title.




Live Loud


On this page I used lots of rub ons, something I'm usually afraid to commit to on my pages. Hehehehe! I just move things around so much, but here they were a natural addition and I love the way they look on the cardstock background.

Background is spritzed with Licorice Spritz by Shimmerz Paints.

Have you ever played with a paper collection and loved using it so much that you HAVE to have MORE? That's how I felt with the Scooter's Vacation. I LOVE the soft primary colors combined with the gray! And that sweet, little pup? Who can resist him?! :) I immediately went out and bought more of this collection to have on hand because I had so much fun creating these pages. :)

More of the I-Top Brad Maker tool on this page. I LOVE the chunky, custom brads you can make with this tool! (I'm thinking I need to pull out some fabric next time. FUN!) The heart comes from the Scooter stamp that I stamped on red paper and cut out.


I pulled out some older Fancy Pants Designs chipboard letters for this page. I spritzed them with Licorice Spritz by Shimmerz Paints to match the grays in this paper line. :)

The Maya Road chipboard letters are painted with Coal Shimmerz paint and the background is spritzed with more Licorice Spritz and Penny Pincher Vibez . :)

Yesterday, I spent the day with Maryn on a field trip to a dairy farm. We learned about farms, saw a brand new baby cow, watched a cow get milked, watched a sheep get sheared, learned about keeping the earth clean, and made a greenhouse necklace with a seed in it. It was windy, but I had a feeling that was a good thing (to help keep the "scent" down. Hehehe!)Love spending time with my girl! :)




I can't believe school will be out in just a month!

Me, Myself, and I Challenge & Ad Inspiration

There's a new challenge posted on the Noel Mignon Challenge Blog today, The Me, Myself & I challenge. For this one we were challenged to scrapbook about our names and any special stories behind them. It's not often I take the time to scrapbook about myself, so this was lots of fun!



I used the Playdate kit to create my page. I am in LOVE with the Jillibean Kraft cardstock included in the kits lately. I used the Bed of Roses Spritz by Shimmerz paints (one of my very favorite Spritz colors!) from the kit on the background.

Wondering how to get those delicious, giant drips? Simply shake up your bottle, then unscrew the mister. Take the mister out and use the tube as a "dropper" to place your drips exactly where you would like them. :)

I liked the way the background looked and didn't want to cover it up. I decided to stitch a border to contain my page elements where I would normally add a layer of paper. It worked out great and was a fun change of pace.

The second page I wanted to share with you today is a page I also a page I created using the Noel Mignon Playdate kit along with a sheet of Cosmo Cricket Coordinations cardstock as the background .
